Bruton School for Girls has a very active sports programme offering a wide range of activities with an emphasis on providing every girl with the opportunity to participate either competitively or for her own enjoyment
A typical term has over 50 competitive fixtures for all age groups, playing against other leading independent schools from throughout the South West. These are primarily the traditional sports of hockey, netball, rounders, swimming, athletics and tennis. See our Sports Fixtures and Results page for information on current fixtures and recent results.
We encourage all girls to participate in the inter-hall competitions (house matches) and involve themselves in the wide variety of extra-curricular clubs available that includes other sports such as trampolining, judo and professional tennis coaching.
The sporting facilities at Bruton are strengthened by the floodlit astro-turf pitch and a well-equipped fitness suite. These are in addition to the playing fields, used for both games and athletics, extensive tennis and netball courts, dance studio and rowing suite and outdoor heated swimming pool, which is much enjoyed in the summer.
Bruton School for Girls has produced excellent national and international representatives in a number of sports including tennis, cross-country, athletics, netball, hockey, rowing and equestrianism.
Girls have the opportunity to experience international sport and culture on a variety of sporting tours that have included South Africa, Canada, Singapore and Malaysia. For skiers, a bi-annual tour to the Alps allows for ski tuition for all level of ability. A recent trip was to La Santa in Tenerife.
