Sixth
"The Sixth Form is very different from the lower years, as you are given more freedom and responsibility for your own actions."
Rachel, Sixth Form
Students in the Sixth Form are given much more freedom to determine their own activities and courses and enjoy the transition from closely regulated schooling to a sense of independence which is an ideal preparation for university and adult life.
Highly-qualified staff working with small classes ensures that students can gain very high levels of expertise in their chosen fields of interest - skills which take them on to the university and course of their choice. An excellent range of A level subjects is supplemented by opportunities to gain a Leiths Certificate in Food and Wine, represent the school in our senior sports teams or participate in public speaking and debating.
Alongside the academic programme guidance on careers, university entrance, preparing for interviews, examination techniques and gap year opportunities is provided throughout the Sixth Form by our own staff and visiting speakers.
As senior members of the school, our Sixth Formers are given added responsibility through positions of leadership and Head Girls, Hall Captains and Prefects are elected to help manage the school efficiently.
Away from the rigours of study, relaxation time can be spent in one of the Sixth Form common rooms or in the Boarding House "Highcroft" which has its own social club for both boarders and day students to enjoy. The Sixth Form hosts a number of Balls and social events throughout the year, organised by members of the Social Committee. There are also opportunities to attend social occasions and events hosted by other schools.
