From the day they arrive, students are cared for by dedicated members of staff in a friendly atmosphere. Bruton School for Girls offers students the opportunity to experience all the best in British life and culture, as well as excellent academic courses.
International students are welcome to join Bruton School for Girls either in the Preparatory School from Year 4 (age 8), or the Senior School from Form 1 (age 11) or the Sixth Form.
We offer the opportunity to study in the beautiful countryside of south-west England in an area with many sites of historical, cultural and natural interest. There are lovely views from our spacious grounds and the unique beauty of the Dorset coast is within easy reach. Bruton is close to the major cities of Bath, Bristol, Exeter and Salisbury and, for cinema, shops and other amenities, the nearest large towns are Frome and Yeovil.
The school has good connections to London, Heathrow and Gatwick, by train (90 mins) and by road (about two hours via A303 and M3). Bristol International Airport is about 40 minutes by car using the A38 and A371. The Channel ports of Portsmouth, Plymouth and Poole provide easy access to and from Europe.
The school provides accompanied transport for boarders to travel between London Heathrow and Bruton at the beginning and end of term. We also provide a service to the local railway stations at Bruton, Castle Cary and Templecombe.
Specialist staff in our English as an Additional Language (EAL) department provide individual tuition to assist our international students to improve their English. During their time in the Senior School, it is likely that each international student will take at least two University of Cambridge ESOL exams. Because we are a small school, international students study alongside our English students and learn all their subjects in English.
Students entering the Sixth Form will prepare for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam, which is necessary for matriculation to university in most English speaking countries. Provision can also be made for preparation for alternative matriculation exams, such as the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (necessary for universities in the USA) should this be required.
International students joining Bruton School for Girls are expected to have a good standard of English and entrance tests require you to demonstrate your level of ability.

Guardians
All overseas borders are required to have an appointed guardian who must reside in the UK. The role of the guardian is mainly to take charge of your daughter during fixed exeat weekends and half terms, to attend relevant Parents’ Evenings and other events such as our Orientation Day for international students prior to the beginning of term. In the event of an emergency the guardian will be the first point of contact. Please see the attached list for some Guardianship Agencies who may be able to assist you to appoint a Guardian for your daughter.
