Bruton girls have long upheld the importance of service to both our own school and the wider community
A Charity Committee works to direct fundraising efforts to the charities chosen by the girls and events are organised throughout the year for the whole school community to participate in such as walks, mufti-days, themed events, concerts and social events.
A school-wide Eco project exists to promote and develop the school’s “green” status and raise awareness of environmental issues. The Eco Team has so far developed and maintained a recycling programme, introduced water-saving devices throughout the school grounds and assisted with planting of gardens.
Our school pond has been rediscovered in recent years with a team of dedicated workers helping to remove unwanted weeds and re-plant to encourage wildlife.
In 2007, a group of Senior School students travel to Tanzania to work with charity organisation ‘Homes for Humanity’. The girls will work alongside Tanzanian families to build two domestic houses for those living in sub-standard accommodation below the poverty line. They will build cost-effective, safe, culturally sympathetic, appropriate houses.
Through their involvement in the school and wider community, our students learn the rewards of commitment and service, often discovering new depths and talents in themselves.
