Bruton School for Girls has a very active sports programme offering a wide range of activities with an emphasis on providing every girl with the opportunity to participate either competitively or for her own enjoyment
A typical term has over 100 competitive fixtures for all age groups, playing against other leading independent schools from throughout the South West. These are primarily the traditional sports of hockey, netball, rounders, swimming, athletics and tennis.
We encourage all girls to participate in the inter-hall competitions (house matches) and involve themselves in the wide variety of extra-curricular clubs available that includes other sports such as tag rugby, football, trampolining, sailing, judo, fencing, lacrosse and golf.
The members of the Physical Education department bring to Bruton their expertise in a number of sports at both international and national league level and they are supported by other professional coaches.
The sporting facilities at Bruton have been strengthened over the last five years with the addition of a floodlit astro-turf pitch and a well-equipped fitness suite. These add to the existing playing fields, used for both games and athletics, and extensive tennis and netball courts.
Bruton Girls has produced excellent national and international representatives in a number of sports including tennis, cross-country, athletics, netball, hockey, rowing and women’s rugby.
Girls have the opportunity to experience international sport and culture on a variety of sporting tours that have included South Africa, Canada, Singapore and Malaysia in recent years. For skiers, a bi-annual tour to the Alps allows for ski tuition for all level of ability.
