Sixth Form students partake in a range of general studies and extra-curricular activities

In the Sixth Form a wide range of AS and A level courses are offered together with a selection of general studies and extra-curricular activities to extend interests or develop key skills.

Girls in Sixth Form are encouraged to study three, four or subjects from the following options. Click on each subject for an overview of the course content and structure:

In addition to the A level curriculum, Sixth Form students partake in a range of general studies and extra-curricular activities including:

Advanced Certificate of Spoken English
All Lower Sixth students take part in an advanced level oral examination offered by the English Speaking Board.

Driver Education
Unique to Bruton School for Girls, our award-winner Driver Education programme uses a combination of classroom and practical lessons to educate our young drivers.

Leiths Certificate in Food and Wine
A four-term course offered by the Leiths School for Food and Wine designed to teach the basic skills necessary to become a confident and efficient cook. Having completed the course not only will students be able to cook very competently but they will also be able to find employment during their school and university holidays. Find out more

Higher Education Preparation
All Sixth Form students benefit from the programme of events, lectures, mock interviews, visits by Old Girls and the use of our Careers Resource Centre to help them prepare for university, “gap years” and future employment.

Physical Education
Formers participate in an afternoon games session. With an emphasis on sport as a social recreation, students are able to participate in school teams (hockey, netball, athletics, cross-country), learn a new sport such as golf, tag-rugby, lacrosse or basketball, use the school Fitness Suite or join in sessions on self-defence or yoga.

Extension Studies
Lessons dedicated to discussions on topics such as politics and money management.

Information Technology
Lower Sixth students who have not taken ICT at GCSE take a course in ICT Key Skills.

Photography
Students can join classes run by the Art department and improve their photography skills.

Duke of Edinburgh Award
Undertake Bronze, Silver or Gold levels and take part in expeditions, community service, skills and physical sections, hobbies and activities.

Gleam Team
Lower Sixth girls are able to join the “Gleam Team” which meets once per week after school to write, edit and assemble the annual School Magazine “The Gleam”.

Business Challenge
Students studying Business Studies or Economics are encouraged to also participate in the Business Challenge scheme where they can develop their business skills through the creation, development and implementation of a company enterprise.
