A happy and sociable place, Sunny Hill Pre-Prep and Nursery offers the chance for girls and boys aged 3 - 7 to begin school life in an exciting and caring environment, where the discovery of nature within our beautiful surroundings enhances their learning experience.
The Nursery and Reception classes form our Foundation Stage which has a curriculum especially formulated for our youngest pupils. Our days consist of many opportunities for both play and structured activities which encompass all areas of learning. A smooth transition is made into Prep 1 and 2 where learning is developed through activity, inquiry and creativity, and where caring behaviour and personal achievement are celebrated.
Teaching is based on individual needs where pupils are taught in small groups. A love of literature is encouraged and pupils enjoy making books and performing their own stories. Numeracy is developed through active learning and investigation where the most able pupils are extended with open-ended problem-solving tasks. Languages are taught by specialist teachers with emphasis on making learning fun through games and speaking activities. Music is fostered at an early age with all pupils learning to play the recorder and many having individual music lessons. The benefits of sport and games are introduced as part of a regular physical education programme.
Parent and Toddler Group
Held every Wednesday during term time from 10.30am to 12noon, our Parent and Toddler group welcomes all mums, dads and toddlers to join in the fun and games. This is a great opportunity for toddlers and parents to make new friends and participate in creative and play activities. Each session ends with the children and adults sharing drinks, snacks and songs! There is no charge to attend.
