International Admissions

We welcome international students and encourage diversity among nationalities. Approximately 15% of our students come from a wide variety of overseas nations giving girls a global outlook in a primarily British boarding school. We are happy to liaise with overseas agents, schools and parents/guardians.  All international students are required to have a good level of English to enable them to access the curriculum and take a full part in the life of the school.

Senior School Entry

International students who wish to apply to Bruton School for Girls may sit the UKiset online entrance test, or take the School's own entrance assessments.  We are looking for well-rounded students with a genuine desire to study in the UK.

Sixth Form Entry

For entry to the Sixth Form, if the student has studied at an international school and followed the iGCSE or GCSE programme, her current school can provide us with predicted grades.   Otherwise, we will ask the student to sit subject specific A level entrance assessments plus an English placement test.

Prep School Entry and Short Stay Students

For entry to the Prep School, we ask candidates to sit age appropriate assessments in English.  Applications for short stay students (less than one year) applying to the senior school are considered on an individual basis, and may involve entrance testing in English and Maths.

All candidates will be interviewed by the Headmistress, the Head of the Prep School or a senior member of the academic staff as part of the selection process.  The interview will be conducted either via Skype, or in person if you are able to visit the school.

You can download our Admissions Procedure for International Students using the link on this page.

For international students the Registration fee is £50 and the Acceptance deposit is £500.

Visas

Following successful completion of entrance assessments, students who are not European Economic Area (EEA) passport holders will require a visa to study in the UK. The school will issue a Confirmation of Acceptance for Study (CAS) directly to the UK Visa & Immigration Service. The CAS number is provided to the student for presentation with their visa application. The CAS will be issued once we have received the Acceptance Form and deposit (but not more than six months prior to the start of the course).  Guidelines on applying for a Tier 4 (Child) visa are available from the Admissions Department.

Guardians

All students whose home is overseas or whose parents currently live abroad must have a guardian, regardless of the duration of their stay at the school. The guardian must be resident in the UK and, ideally, within a two-hour journey of the school, in order for them easily to be called upon in the event of sickness etc. The role of the guardian is mainly to take charge of your daughter and be your representative during your absence. It is the responsibility of the student’s family to arrange and inform the school of the guardian’s contact details. The school can assist you by informing you of a number of Guardianship Agencies (please note that these are not recommendations). Family friends and relatives based in the UK are also acceptable guardians.

Travel

You are responsible for arranging all travel to and from the UK. We arrange a transfer to and from London Heathrow Airport, as well as other airports, as required, at the beginning and end of term. A charge, which is added to your school account, is made for this service that must be requested through the Head of Boarding.

Induction Day for Overseas Students

All overseas students entering the school at the start of the school year in September will be invited to attend an Induction Day for Overseas Students. This is held either the day before term commences (boarders’ travel day) or on the first day of term. Parents and Guardians are also welcome to attend the Induction Day. You will have the opportunity to meet the Head of English as an Additional Language (EAL) and other teachers and familiarise yourself with the school. Information about the Induction Day is provided once you have accepted a place at Bruton School for Girls for your daughter.
